Poems of Progress
David Devaney shares his reflections about his journey with the Southern Louisiana Veterans Health Care System’s MOVE! Program by writing poetry.
The MOVE!’s Olympic Challenge
When setting goals all by myself,
My competitor is me.
Gold medal accolades I'll get.
When health, at last, I see.
Movement is important,
Diet with restraint.
And every day, with one more step,
Success brings no complaint.
The first step is commitment,
Awareness every day.
And now with Annie guiding me,
I'll never go astray.
The second step, recording,
The progress I have made.
It's then success is everywhere,
It does my life pervade.
And though I am all by myself,
With “MOVE!,” I'm not alone.
Through patience, they inspire me,
So stronger, I have grown.
So in this great Olympic year,
I'm challenged to succeed.
By counting steps and calories,
To wellness, I take heed.
Focused and Committed
