A Change in Lifestyle is Forever
TJ Plona realized that while a diet may be temporary, a change in lifestyle is forever.
After an informative and inspiring conversation with MOVE! team members at the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System in Northampton, MA, TJ made the choice to invest in himself and his health and manage his weight with MOVE!.
Interest and Investment
TJ knew that he wasn’t at a healthy weight, so when his provider suggested the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans, he decided to give it a try. He shares that at first, he wasn’t incredibly invested in the idea of managing his weight with MOVE!. After the first call with his MOVE! team, however, things changed. "I became very interested in seeing this through," he explains, and committed himself to changing his lifestyle for the better.
I have minor ups and downs, but it’s easy now to stay the course.

Competition and Accountability
As TJ became more familiar with MOVE!, he realized how it differs from short-term diets and weight loss programs. He learned useful healthy eating practices, including how to manage his portion sizes, how to select healthy foods, and how to be mindful about his food and drink choices. In addition to learning how to make simple changes, TJ benefited from the group setting of his MOVE! sessions. "I found a little competition was fun," he recalls, "but the accountability was what helped make it successful."
Healthier and Happier
In more than a year since starting MOVE!, and maintaining his goal weight with a new, healthy lifestyle, TJ has noticed a number of benefits. His blood pressure has improved and his medications have been reduced. "I generally feel better," he explains, and "continue to eat better." TJ also enjoys staying active by participating in his favorite activities, such as golf, bowling, darts, and walking. He values the contribution of friends and his girlfriend, who also managed to lose weight as she supported TJ on his journey to his best health.
