An Effort for Better Health

Bob Noe harnessed his will to change and developed a plan to manage his weight and enjoy the health benefits that came with losing weight.

Bob worked with the MOVE! team at the VA Marion Healthcare System in Marion, IL, to establish a plan and build a healthier lifestyle.

 

Asking the Right Questions

"This all started because I couldn’t handle the back and leg pain," Bob explains. "There were no diets working." Bob was ready to make a change, and in order to help him find the right path, he looked to the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans. "Asking the right questions and applying the effort" was Bob’s main focus, and thanks to the convenience of telephone sessions, he was able to begin his weight management journey in the comfort and convenience of his own home.

With MOVE! there are no fads or gimmicks. It’s working with each individual on what works best for them.

Taking Next Steps

MOVE!’s emphasis on the importance of small, sustainable changes differs from what Bob described as "fad" diets he had tried in the past. "Instead of traditional dieting we decided to cut out added sugars and eat more protein," Bob recalls. In addition to being mindful about the types and amounts of food he consumed, Bob also decreased the amount of soda he drank. Bob’s experience with MOVE! inspired him to share, "I believe there is a way for everyone [and] MOVE! is willing to help however possible."

Striving for More

Since starting MOVE!, Bob has lost 75 pounds and plans on working toward even greater progress. He shares that after losing weight, his health has improved. "I sleep better," he shares, "I have gained mobility, and I am now able to put on my socks" Bob reflects positively, adding that he feels less stressed and is able to better manage his pain. He is especially grateful to his MOVE! Coordinator, Beth Blair, for her constant support and her help in figuring out what worked best for him.
