"Walking Proof that MOVE! Works"
James Noblin committed himself to developing strategies he could use to manage his weight and improve his life.
With the help of the MOVE! team at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR, James learned how to build a healthy lifestyle to help him achieve his weight management goals
A Fresh Start
"I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life," James explains. Though his difficulty with weight management was longstanding, his isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic presented an even greater challenge. James realized that the weight he had gained was making his heart problems even worse. Over the years, James had tried countless strategies to lose weight, and when he shared with his health care team that he was frustrated with his progress, they offered to connect him with the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans.
I am convinced that most Veterans would benefit greatly from the MOVE! program. I certainly have!

Building a New Lifestyle
While participating in MOVE!, James had the opportunity to learn how to develop a healthy lifestyle by making small, sustainable changes to his eating and physical activity habits. He began to complement the weight management medications he was taking with mindful eating practices, such as focusing more on healthier foods and managing his portion sizes. James also began going out more frequently and increasing the distance of his walks. As the weight started to come off, he discovered that his overall health was improving too.
Continuing to MOVE!
Throughout his MOVE! journey, James has had the support and encouragement of his healthcare team and his family. He thanks Lyndsay Myers, his MOVE! dietitian, for being extremely helpful as he developed and maintained his new lifestyle. James also made a point to credit his dog with keeping him active around the house! Since starting MOVE!, James has lost 60 pounds and his health has improved. He is excited to share the many benefits of participating in MOVE!, including being more mobile, breathing more easily, and no longer needing to take insulin.
