A Fuller and Happier Life
Robert Morris used new tools and strategies that he acquired from the MOVE! team at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV to achieve weight loss and better health.
A New Plan
Robert explains that before starting the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans, he was facing several health issues. "I was overweight," he explains, "my A1C was high, and I was prediabetic. It scared me because it ran in my family." Robert tried to lose weight on his own, but felt that he lacked the right tools to get the job done. He discussed his concerns with his VA provider, who recommended MOVE! as a way to take control of his health.
If you value your life…know that you can get back to a full healthy lifestyle.

Marking His Path
Robert’s plan included individual MOVE! sessions where he learned new strategies to improve his eating and physical activity habits. "[MOVE!] breaks down the process of the things you have to do." In addition to encouragement and support from his MOVE! team, Robert found the MOVE! Food and Physical Activity Log especially helpful in his efforts. By keeping a log of the types and amounts of food and beverages he consumed, as well as his physical activity, Robert could more efficiently monitor his progress.
Healthy and Grateful
When reflecting on his experience with MOVE!, Robert’s opinion is clear. "I feel that it saved my life," he says. "I lost over 50 pounds and was taken off of one of my blood pressure medications…I [am now] more healthy than I have been for 20 years." It has been several years since Robert completed his participation in MOVE!, and though he does not meet regularly with his team, he refers back to his MOVE! materials if he needs a refresher and knows that the team is there if and when he needs them. To maintain his healthy lifestyle, Robert’s daily routine now includes running and walking, as well as other workouts. He is especially grateful for the support of his MOVE! team, including MOVE! coordinator Shelby Maynard, and shares that with his newfound energy, he enjoys spending more time with his grandchildren.
