The Value of Discipline

Paul Mansur committed to simple, healthy changes and adjusted his lifestyle to lose weight and improve his health.

Paul worked with the MOVE! team at the VA Portland Health Care System in Vancouver, WA, to develop the skills and techniques he needed to succeed in his weight loss journey.

The Most Important Factor to Success

When Paul describes his time spent working to change his life with the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans, he explains that there are many aspects to success, but that "the most important is discipline." Luckily, he explains, "all military people understand discipline, so you have the most important basic tool you need to be successful." By participating in MOVE!, Paul made the decision to dedicate himself to improving his health through lifestyle change.

Good luck, and remember, it’s the journey!

Dedication in Practice

After Paul started MOVE!, he quickly realized that the path to success was clear: "if you work with your counselor every week, do each lesson, track your food daily, and increase your activity, you cannot fail at losing weight. Read each lesson, follow each lesson, and be honest in what you consume and you will be successful." Paul’s commitment to maintaining his discipline yielded great results, as he shares that "the lessons are life-changing and will follow you for the rest of your life."

Signs of Success

Since starting MOVE!, Paul has not only lost weight, but also improved his overall health. He explains that he now has more stamina, gets better sleep, maintains a better diet, and can enjoy longer walks. He continues to work toward increasing his physical activity, and with the support of his MOVE! team and peers, feels confident that he will achieve even greater success.
