The Call to Better Health
Janet Kircher reached out and found the support and accountability that she needed to change her life and manage her weight.
Janet’s experience with TeleMOVE! at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Tacoma, WA, helped her make the lifestyle changes she needed to reach her goals.
A Fresh Start
Janet explains that she struggled to maintain a healthy weight for most of her life. "My weight steadily increased over time with four pregnancies," she shares. When she noticed that her weight was making everyday activities more difficult, Janet started to focus on healthier eating. She shared, "I have been cooking a lot more at home and when eating out I pay closer attention to my choices." Even though stress eating posed a serious challenge to her efforts, Janet managed to lose 30 pounds on her own. To help her continue to progress, she embraced the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans and its emphasis on small, lasting lifestyle changes.
You are not alone… there are people out there to help you.

A Helpful Strategy
Although Janet had been able to make great progress on her own, she knew that the accountability and support of MOVE! could help her even more. "The TeleMOVE! program worked well for my lifestyle," she explains. Janet worked on lifestyle change, used the daily reminders to keep her going, and checked in regularly with her TeleMOVE! care coordinator for additional support. Next, she began increasing her physical activity, tracking her food and water intake, and using the MOVE! Veteran Workbook to help her stay on track.
A New Perspective
Since starting MOVE!, Janet has lost an additional 35 pounds. She is more mobile, has more energy, and now finds everyday life much easier. Janet has also embraced mindfulness, including meditation as part of a holistic approach to her health. She thanks her family, especially her daughter, for their support during her weight loss journey. Janet is also grateful for the efforts of her MOVE! team, including RN Cherie LaTourette, who helped keep Janet on track and motivated to change her health for the better.
