Embracing Opportunity and Accountability

Jeff Jones took advantage of the information and resources offered by MOVE! to build a healthy lifestyle.

Jeff worked with the MOVE! team at the Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, OR, to develop new, healthy habits for physical activity, eating, and drinking.

 

An Effort to Change

Jeff explains that he has struggled to maintain a healthy weight since childhood. Before starting the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans, he had never tried any other programs to help him manage his weight. When his VA health care team suggested that he give MOVE! a try, Jeff embraced his new opportunity to improve his health with open arms.

Building a Strategy

After starting MOVE!, Jeff learned that them most effective way to manage his weight and improve his health was to incorporate small, manageable changes to his current eating, drinking, and physical activity habits. He credits his MOVE! team, as well as the support of his Veteran peers in their group sessions, for keeping him accountable as he learned about the benefits of mindful eating and being active.

Continuing to Push Forward

Since starting MOVE!, Jeff has lost nearly 20 pounds, and shares that he has increased his general mobility. Still, he explains, he has not yet met his goals, and will continue to pursue weight management and better health by continuing to work with MOVE! With his commitment to his new healthy lifestyle, he is well-prepared to achieve even greater success in the future.
