Making the Decision to Feel Better
Marie Johnson embraced a new path to better health and weight loss by making small changes to her routine.
Marie worked with the MOVE! team at the North Charleston, NC, Community Based Outpatient Clinic to build healthy habits and change her lifestyle.
Forging a New Path
Marie first began to focus on achieving a healthy weight over a year ago. She started working out 4 times per week and did her best to maintain a "clean and healthy diet." When Marie’s VA provider heard about her efforts, she suggested that the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans would be a great additional support for Marie. While Marie had never tried a weight management program before, she embraced the opportunity for this support on her journey to better health.
The work is hard, but the outcome is so worth it!

Adjusting Her Habits
Although Marie had already been working on increasing her physical activity and improving her eating and drinking habits, there was still room for growth. "I didn’t have to change much," she explains, "but I did cut back on the carbs and stuck to more meats and vegetables. I also increased my water intake." These small adjustments to her habits helped Marie achieve even greater change than she’d planned.
Enjoying Better Health
Since starting MOVE!, Marie has noticed improvement to her health along with her decreased weight. She has lost over 40 pounds, and reports increased energy and less pain in her knees and back. "My body feels so much better," she shares. "Sometimes admitting that we need help can be hard, but I can honestly say that joining [MOVE!] has been one of the best decisions I have made…It has helped me in more ways than I imagined."
