Carl used various components of MOVE! care offered at the Vancouver VA Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington to develop new techniques and strategies to achieve his goals.
First Steps With MOVE!
For Carl, managing his weight was a difficult challenge. He shares that he tried sharply restricting the amount of food he would consume, but that method didn’t help him improve his health or a get to a healthier weight. During a visit with his VA health care team, Carl’s provider recommended the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans to help him in his efforts to improve his health. Making the most of the resources available to him, Carl participated in MOVE! group sessions, the Be Active and MOVE! physical activity option, and MOVE! Coach with Care to support him along his journey.

Making Changes
After starting MOVE!, Carl began learning new tips for healthy living, such as being more mindful of portion sizes and considering what types of food might be best to help manage his weight. Using the MOVE! Food and Physical Activity Log to keep track of his routine, Carl chose to add more fruits and vegetables to his daily diet and increased his physical activity as a boost to his usual habits around the house!
Staying the Course
Carl has begun to see many benefits of his healthier habits since starting MOVE! He shares that he is feeling better about himself after reaching a healthy weight and has saved money by preparing meals at home and eating out less often. He thanks his family and his MOVE! team for their support on his journey and is looking forward to maintaining his healthy habits in the future. With his commitment to his new, healthy lifestyle, Carl will surely continue to reap the rewards for his great effort!
