The Road to Better Health
Bob Griffin turned to the MOVE! team at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, MI, to help him find a new path forward to reach a healthy weight.
Setting a Course
After Bob quit smoking, he began to gain weight. Wanting to follow one healthy change with another, he asked his VA provider for information about weight loss medication. His provider recommended the TeleMOVE! option of the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans. This choice allowed Bob to pursue his goals from the comfort and convenience of his own home. He began learning strategies for healthy lifestyle changes, such as being aware of the types and amounts of food and beverages he consumed. Bob began tracking his food and beverage choices daily and monitoring his weight.
This program works because you have all the support that you need from a caring and professional staff that does not judge you.

Sharing his Progress
After completing his initial participation with TeleMOVE!, Bob was invited to give MOVE! group sessions a try. "It was a great program to be a part of," he explains. "I knew I was not alone with my feelings and heard of other ways to have success in the program." Bob appreciated being able to share stories of his progress with other Veterans who were pursuing their own goals. While attending group sessions, he discovered that he had a difficult time walking more than three quarters of a mile without experiencing pain and fatigue. Bob learned that setting SMART goals is a great way to manage progress at a reasonable pace and stay motivated. Over time, he built up his strength and now Bob can walk up to five miles with no symptoms!
Reaching the Destination
Thanks to the changes healthy lifestyle he’s made, Bob has lost nearly 40 pounds and improved his health in many ways. He sleeps better, has more energy, and is more mobile. Bob is grateful to everyone who helped him stay motivated and accountable through his weight loss journey, including the MOVE! team and his family. He is especially happy to report that his "biggest supporter" is his youngest granddaughter, who helps him stay on track by reminding him of their walks every time she comes to visit.
