Jason Coppola worked with the TeleMOVE! team at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System to build a new lifestyle and achieve his weight loss goals.
Finding His Motivation
In May of 2024, Jason decided that it was time to focus on getting to a healthy weight. "I needed to lose some weight and be more active but needed some motivation," he explains. Jason’s VA primary care provider suggested the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans, so Jason decided to give it a try. He signed up for the TeleMOVE! option, which allowed him to access MOVE! services from the comfort and convenience of his own home. Once in the program, Jason also took advantage of additional virtual options of care including MOVE! Coach with Care and the Annie MOVE! Weight Management Subscription.

Part of a Team
Jason explains that his MOVE! team, led by coordinator Renee Wehry, offered essential support throughout his journey. "She was instrumental in teaching me all about nutrition, which types of foods to eat, which foods to stay away from, [and] how many calories I should have each day," he recalls. Jason also learned how to add more physical activity into his routine to help with his weight loss maintenance and overall health. He started by simply being as active as possible, even if that activity was as basic as walking. In addition to the support of his MOVE! team, and his family, Jason found motivation and accountability through mobile apps that helped him track his physical activity and calories consumed.
Feeling Positive
Since starting MOVE!, Jason has lost nearly 30 pounds. What’s more, his new healthier lifestyle has resulted in other health benefits. "I feel so positive within my body, soul, and mind. I have a better fitness level," he shares, "and can jog for 1 hour without being exhausted." In addition to having more energy, Jason also explains that he feels much more confident. Encouraged by his progress, Jason plans to continue the habits that helped him achieve a healthy weight and better health, like tracking his calorie intake and exercise.
