Surpassing All Expectations
Jeff Conway used the "good habits and motivation" he developed with MOVE! to lose weight and improve his health.
Jeff worked with the MOVE! team at the John J. Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis, MO, to build a new, healthy lifestyle that he feels good about.
A Fresh Start
For Jeff, maintaining a healthy weight had been a struggle for decades. "I kept gaining a little at a time," he explains, "and every time I dieted, I would lose weight and then gain it back plus a little more." Jeff's weight eventually began to affect both his physical and emotional health. When his VA provider suggested that he give the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans a try, Jeff started, but with some doubts about how effective the program could be.
MOVE! can work. It does work. It's all about your commitment and willingness to make changes.

Finding His Motivation
After starting MOVE! in December 2021, Jeff soon discovered that the program had more to offer than he had expected. "The skills they taught me are valuable, logical, and realistic," he explains, and with them, Jeff felt empowered to begin changing his eating and drinking habits. Jeff identified one particularly useful technique, which was learning to be more mindful about what foods and how much of those foods he consumed. He began tracking his calories, measuring his portions, and maintaining four-hour intervals between meals with little snacking. In addition to his MOVE! team, Jeff also specifically mentioned the pharmacist and dietitian on his team for their support. "[They] taught me that it was possible for me to lose weight," he explains, calling them "heroes" and further sharing, "without [their] care I would not have even considered it worth trying."
Success and Reward
Since starting MOVE!, Jeff has lost over 75 pounds and continues to work toward even greater success. He shares that he has set several targets for himself, and upon reaching each one, he has pushed further. His weight loss has led to positive effects on his overall health, and Jeff says that his pattern of success "has given me something to feel good about." As Jeff works toward each of his milestones, his positive attitude will be a valuable component in achieving his goals.
