All About Attitude
For Robert Boyett, being able to manage his weight was a result of his positive attitude and commitment to the principles of a healthy lifestyle.
Robert chose to work with the MOVE! team at the Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, OR, to develop healthy eating and physical activity habits.
Getting a Fresh Start
Robert recalls that his weight management journey began after about 5 years of not focusing much on his weight. Then, when discussing the need for a knee replacement, Robert’s primary care provider offered the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans to help him lose weight in preparation for his knee surgery. Hopeful, he selected one-on-one telephone coaching with his MOVE! dietitian and began working to change his lifestyle.
"[MOVE!] will be worth it in the long run…stay true to YOURSELF!"

Adopting New Habits
Armed with his positive attitude, as well as the guidance and support of MOVE! dietitian Jalene Lowthorp, Robert began by making small changes to his everyday habits. In addition to being mindful about portion size, tracking calories, and checking package labels to help him make healthy choices, he began increasing his physical activity. This mindful approach to food and beverage choices, combined with exercise, helped Robert establish a solid foundation for weight loss. He shared, "the most help came from just being one-on-one with somebody to bounce ideas off of. There were no distractions."
Champion of Change
As a result of Robert’s lifestyle changes, he quickly began to achieve his weight loss goals. Since starting MOVE!, he has lost nearly 50 pounds! He is committed to following the plan that has already led him to success by making his new healthy habits a permanent part of his routine. Best of all, Robert’s positive attitude helps him every step of the way.
