Reclaiming Health and Well-Being With MOVE!
Jeff Monson shares how he turned concern into commitment and eventual celebration.
Finding Motivation
As a U.S. Navy Veteran, I reached a point where my health demanded attention. I wasn't just tired of feeling sluggish. I was genuinely concerned about my future, especially my blood pressure and the results from my latest lab work. My motivation was simple; I needed to get healthy not just for me but for my family. That commitment led me to enroll in the MOVE! Weight Management Program in Madison WI, and it became the catalyst for a life altering transformation.
Addressing Concerns
Before starting the program, simple tasks had become monumental challenges. Climbing a flight of stairs left me winded, and my ankle and knee pain meant I was constantly holding back. When I stepped on the scale, I knew the numbers were daunting. I wore size 44 pants and a 5XL shirt. The journey ahead seemed overwhelming, but the MOVE! Program provided the practical step-by-step guidance I needed.
The MOVE! Program didn't just help me lose weight; it installed a permanent, healthy lifestyle and gave me back my health and well-being.

Developing Strategies
The key to my success wasn't a restrictive diet, it was education. MOVE!’s emphasis on portion sizes fundamentally changed how I looked at food, teaching me that I could eat the things I liked, just in balanced amounts. Learning how to effectively read nutrition labels empowered me to make informed choices at the grocery store. I also adopted the habit of incorporating small, healthy snacks throughout the day, which helped stabilize my energy and stop the cycle of crash-and-binge. Above all, the constant, empathetic support from the Madison MOVE! team was indispensable, providing accountability and encouragement on the toughest days.
Achieving Goals
The results speak for themselves. I have shed a total of 100 pounds, dropping from a size 44 to a comfortable size 36 pants - a full 8 sizes down! My clothes needed a complete overhaul, as I went from a 5XL to a 2XL shirt. But the greatest reward is the functional freedom I've gained. My lab results have significantly improved, my blood pressure is manageable, and my painful ankles and knees? They are not sore at all anymore. I am now active and easily able to walk 6 miles without trouble. Climbing stairs is no longer a challenge.
